Pohoda Festival 2010

Well well well. An update after some months. This time, unlike last year, I will be giving a more broad view about this year's Pohoda festival (since no tents collapsed, hooray!)

Pohoda 2010 - Butterfly wings

The festival is the biggest thing in Slovakia, and the organization is pretty much one of the best in central europe in general. Arrival was cool, minus searching a place for the tent. For a working person it's not easy to arrive at 5pm, but we managed to find a nice spot anyway (except some neighbors that started shouting bullshit /and shit/ in the morning so we couldn't sleep).

Pohoda 2010 - queue to the showers

What I love about outdoor festivals is the atmosphere. People everywhere, lots of movement, things to do and see (and smell, gotta love Toi-tois). Not only music, but organizations, petitions, discussions, or just chilling. Accenture had a tent with chess, sudoku and other games that you could play and also compete in (one could win a ticket for next year's Pohoda). We don't need to mention typical occurences, such as the Drugs/Sex tent (they didn't have either of those commodities though. Shame!), book sellout (30 cents per book) or silent disco. A new addition were pretty scary looking carousels and a launching ball instead of a bungee jump (didn't do those, I'm a pussy).

Pohoda 2010 - non-alcoholic beer veteran

I missed the chinese bus with noodles, so I had to eat all those chicken brutalburgers and whatnot. I'm not sure, but it seems the quality of food is going down every year. They should check that out, as tough that might be, since all the food vendors are third party and mostly Czech.

Pohoda 2010 - water, fuck yeah!

And what makes a good festival are the musicians, of course. This year's lineup was nice, I had some things picked out, too bad I didn't manage to see them all. First thing we went to see was the Vienna Vegetable Orchestra, where people played various instruments made from vegetables. Sounds funny, but it was really cool and they made a nice show. They also made a soup after. Didn't eat that, I'm scared of some vegetables.

Another band I was looking forward was Golden Filter. Too bad they played so soon (at 7pm or so) and it was still light outside. But I still enjoyed it a lot, they played a new track which was really good, plus stuff from their latest album. Goosebumps sometimes.

After that, we were running around and doing lots of stuff (read: drinking). I woke up at 2am, realizing that I overslept Autechre. Too bad, wanted to see those. So I just went to the O2 tent, to check out Digitalism DJs. They played really well, I was surprised and danced my ass off till Zinc, who started playing shitty Techno, so I went to sleep.

Pohoda 2010 - I don't feel like dancing choreography workshop

Saturday had it's fill of fun musical events too - Scissor Sisters with their retro disco were nice. Once again I missed one thing I wanted to see, namely Crystal Castles, too bad. But The XX with a flock of chinese flying lights in the night sky above the main stage was a great show. I was skeptical how it will sound, because The XX are pretty mellow and I don't think they fit well on the large stage, but in the end it was great.

Pohoda 2010 - more water!

What was really awesome though, were Múm. Very modest, very pretty, very elven, like fairies and dwarves from a tale of distant lands. Just wonderful. Too bad Leftfield left me disappointed - yes, I understand that it's music from the 90s, so I'm not really criticizing anything.

Pohoda 2010 - baloon

Overall, I'm happy, we'll go back next year if we can!
