Piclens integration or failing at RSS feeds
Oh my head. This was a pretty painful afternoon. Piclens is a very nice Firefox addon for gallery browsing and image searching etc. You can get it here. Now, I encountered a drupal module for Piclens, which piqued my interest in integrating it into this site, just for the kick. But it wasn't so easy as I thought.
First, I looked at the 'documentation' (on drupal's site and also on the piclens site) about how to make it work. I made everything according to the manuals, generated the RSS feed just as it said etc. But what do you know, it just didn't work. I looked 2 hours around the code, trying to find what was the problem. Without success of course. Desperate measures made me to create a few pure HTML test galleries, which all worked fine. So, I used a static .rss file - not a dynamic RSS generation script. And bam, that worked even on my main site. So how to do this? A pure hack and a stupid solution: creating files called galleryname_feed.rss in a directory and using those as the feed for Piclens. Ugly ugly ugly, but it worked...
I would really like to know, what could be the problem of a script not working, but a static file working well. I even changed the output MIME types around, with no results. But at least it works now, although I would be more happy if it worked like I originally intended. Maybe later.
